Over the weekend I went to see the Tim Burton Exhibition with a girlfriend. It's an absolutely epic exhibition, and I feel like I barely scratched the surface, so I'll probably make another visit when it quietens down a bit, and I can actually get within short-sighted view of the pieces on the wall.

I thought this outfit fitted the aesthetics of Tim Burton quite nicely, actually, and I'm glad to be finally blogging the polkadot City Chic jacket that I bought a few weeks ago.

It's a great little jacket, but definitely more suited to in-between weather than the cold winter days we're experiencing at the moment. It's quite short in the arms... presumably deliberately, and I lost the button off the front within a few hours of wearing it. But the scarlet lining and the steampunky brooch which comes free pinned to the lapel more than make up for it.

So I had a very heads-down-bums-up week that culminated in the world's laziest Sunday. Huzzah!

It's come to that part of the year - at the turning of the season - when I'm utterly sick of everything in my collection and hankering for a change in both temperature and wardrobe. I want to get back into my woolies and my boots. I splurged on some new over-the-knee socks and now I feel like I want some new frocks and skirts to wear them with.

But the weather forecast's refusing to play ball, so I'm having to content myself with new shoes and the promise of a much-needed haircut.

Still, I have a list as long as my arm of Things What I Want On Etsy, and I'm in desperate need of a nice going-out dress (honestly, truly, I haven't got a single frock suitable for a wedding or a really fancy restaurant) so I might put up a survey some time this week and let you - my gorgeous, super fashionable readers - make the decision a bit easier.

Frugal February: Gusted

Oh dear! This skirt... I love it, but I discovered today that the smallest gust of wind exposes my luvees for all the world to see. And today's been quite gusty, so I've spent much of the day clutching my skirt tight around my thighs!

Thanks to Harbourmaster's eagle eye spotting I finally have my mitts on a few metres of blue & white striped jersey, so this weekend I'm planning to do a step-by-step DIY project for those of you asking me how to make this skirt.

G&J's Discount Fabric on Lygon St in Brunswick East... I'd never heard of your before, but I LUFF you! They even have an entire floor of the great quilting fabric's that I moon over on etsy (I can't quilt). In fact you can even find the Very Hungry Caterpillar fabric from my first DIY project!

Frugal February: Monochrome

Dear, oh dear. I'm in serious need of a haircut- I'm feeling quite wild and wooly, and my fringe is at the eyelash-skimming stage that always seems to result in a seventies style centre part.

I've consulted my Budget Nazi, and she's okayed a Frugal February Haircut (it's maintenance, man!) so I might duck in to see my Hairy Godmother towards the end of the week.

It's still really warm in Melbourne, and I'm about at my tolerance level. I'm not a big hot-weather fan; it means sweaty legs, heat rash, migraines, and scalding hot steering wheels.

That said, the Sophisticate and I went and had Fish 'n' Chips at the beach last night, and as I dug my toes into the sand, tossed a handful of chips at the waiting seagulls and watched the sun set I had to admit that life was pretty good.

Frockapalooza: Day 37 - Dishonorable Mentions

Hurrah! Frockapalooza has finally reached it's end, so to tie us up here's a few (dis)honorable mentions that didn't quite manage to make it in for one reason or another! They're still in my closet, so I felt like I had to include them.

So, that makes 41 dresses. 41.

Considering they made a movie called 27 Dresses, and I've left that number in the dust I'd say it's probably time to reassess my wardrobe!

At some point in the next few weeks I'm going to do a drastic cull, and I'll be putting the overflow up on eBay, so I'll let you know once I've got my act together and put them up on offer. I thought I'd donate some of the proceeds from the sale to one of my local charities.

So, without further ado - Frocapalooza, the (dis)honorable mentions:

Too hot for this dress over summer alas, but I still like it, it's great for snuggling.

I was actually going to wear this dress for New Year's, but when I put it on prior to coming to Canberra I discovered that I've lost enough cup sizes that it won't stay up. Quite sad about this, as I've worn it to almost every wedding I've been to over the last three years.

Dress: Thrifted via eBay

I bought this dress for the express reason that it zipped up the front like my favourite shirt dress, but it hasn't been worn for a while, and I sort of forgot it was in my cupboard at all (!)

Still love this dress, but I forgot to pack it! I bought it a few years ago during the Year Of Great Frocks That Are Also Cheap, and it's the only one that's lasted the distance.

Managed to drop a bit of oily something on the frill of this dress which prevented it from being worn in time!

Gone With The Trend

Never fear, gentle readers - I'm neither the walking wounded, nor attempting to start some mad new trend of bandaged upper arms. After a short and somewhat annoying hiatus, I've had the Rod Of Power (all hail the Rod Of Power!) reinstalled in my arm, and the bandage is to minimise any bruising. Also, to elicit sympathy from The Girl Whisperer.

On the topic of trends though, I have to guiltily admit that I've finally caved, and bought myself a pair of harem pants.

I swore I wouldn't. I was convinced that they were one of those trends that I'd happily let pass me by, like suspenders or tie dye.

I like these though, they're a bit dressier than most harem pants. Actually, I'd be tempted to call them knickerbockers, because they have styling more familiar with suit trousers than hammer pants.

And thank God for that

I realised the other day that this is the only green outfit I have in my entire wardrobe. I love the dress, but somehow green is a colour that simply passed me by!

I think it was because green was the colour of my school uniform, and after years of enforced-green-wearing I've subconciously decided to never, ever, ever wear it again!

What do you think? Do you still wear the colours from your old school uniform? Perhaps you were one of the students from those forward-thinking schools that didn't have uniforms (oh, how I envied you). Let me know?

Friday Fashion Fix II

Ugh. I've been laid low with the Dreaded Lurgie, and today's been the first day since Monday that I even ventured out of the bedroom.

Today I had a thumping great break in the middle of the day, so of course... I went shopping! I was on the hunt for a denim dress, and while I didn't have any luck dress-wise I was able to find a couple of temptations.
