Jay Jays has been very coy about this, but I was excited to discover the other day that they're venturing into 2XL's. Sort of. It only seems to be in a limited number of pieces, but because this striped top was one of them, I was happy.

I've been looking for a red and white striped top for while - I'd envisaged something with bolder stripes than this, but at $12 I'm not complaining. The new 2XL is probably on par with a size 18, and it's a more flattering fit than my Giordano striped top. It has little puff shoulders and a wide collar-bone exposing neckline, so while it looks good layered under cardigans, it'll look equally good when the weather warms and I want to wear it by itself.

On the topic of cardigans - I'm wearing the "Magic at Midnight" cardigan that I had on my wishlist back in May. The Sophisticate's Mum actually gave it to me on my birthday, and I love it as much as I thought I would

I wore basically this exact same outfit about this time last year, and when I did... Good Things Happened, so it's kind of a good luck outfit for me. It's snuggly-warm too, which can only be a good thing, because Melbourne's being very contrary and contradictory at the moment, and after a spectacular sunny morning, we had a torrential rainstorm which has now subsided into a sulky grey gloom.

It's days like today that make me feel like throwing on warm colours and flamboyant hats and gloves... Did I tell you I got heckled by a busker once for being too colourful?

Oh well, it is Melbourne, after all.

I'm off to Sydney obscenely early tomorrow morning for sales conference, and I'm totally not relishing the wake-up call (though I am excited about spending the weekend with my darling friend Lisa... watch out for us at Paddington Markets!)

Before I left for the sunnier climes I wanted to show you my Rieker-Antistress stretch knee-high boots.

Boots - all boots, even custom made boots - are big around the ankles. It's so you can walk, or so I am led to believe.

Trouble is, sometimes you just want a really sleek and streamlined look - especially if you're wearing your boots with a skirt.

If that's the look you're after then really you don't have another choice. You need to go stretch.

My first pair of knee-high boots were stretch. They had a plasticky feeling, were a size too big, and had to be hoiked up regularly like a pair of loose socks. And I loved them.

These are much better quality, and have been an essential part of my winter wardrobe for a few years now, but they're definitely starting to give up the ghost.

I only have one tip for buying stretch boots, which is: Try to get a pair that pulls on instead of zipping up. Synthetic stretch boots are a dime a dozen these days, but I've always found that unless you're meagre-of-calf the zipper will buckle, which is both fantastically uncomfortable and unsightly to boot.

Had a little bit of a wardrobe malfunction this morning, and had to borrow a t-shirt from The Sophisticate's wardrobe!

I realised when I went back through my blog that every time I wear this cardigan I do it in virtually the same way. White top, blue denim, brown shoes. I'd love some more suggestions... how would YOU wear this cardi?

Hello again!

Please excuse my absence - work's heating up at the moment as Christmas looms in the booktrade. I love this time of year, it's kind of a if-you-can't-beat-it-join-it kind of time when I like to embrace tacky Christmas earrings, and carols, and present buying and all that palaver.

I spent the weekend visiting with The Sophisticate's parents in their extraordinary house in the country. It's one of those amazing places that are packed to the gills with bits and pieces, collections of antiques, random dusty books and art, art, art everywhere! I can imagine it featuring in some old-fashioned children's book where visiting kids become lost in their own world (on another one) within its walls.

They would certainly have had to over this last weekend, because The Sophisticate and I brought the rain down with us and we were delightfully, deliciously homebound for the majority of out visit.

After a week or so of consistently more than 30 degree days the change was utterly welcome, but I was a bit uprepared and (oh woe) had to buy a cardigan to keep me warm.

I settled for this amazing green Friends Of Couture cardigan, which is virtually the same bottle green as my new Veronika Maine jacket

Also, they're not exactly tacky tinsel Christmas Earrings, but I'm loving these new earrings, bought at Sinc Homewares in Beaumaris. For days I saved the little label that said what brand they were (pigeon something??) but of course the moment the time came to blog them I've lost the damn thing and my Google-Fu is failing me. If I find it again I'll update this post.
